Challenge

Permanent outdoor installation with harmonizing projectors
The installation conveys the crucial role of Yan’an during the 2nd Sino-Japanese War in the foundation of contemporary Chinese society by telling the stories of two fictional women. Together, they represent those who witnessed and shaped history in the 1930s and 1940s, and the current generation who have heard their stories about it.

Emotional illustrations of past events and their impact on society today are blended together to create a personal story. It illustrates how values are passed down through generations and inspire modern people as they shape their future.

The visual concept of the exhibition is based on classical Chinese calligraphy and painting. All elements were drawn in a distinctive style based on historical models and later animated to fit the show design.

In addition to the visual design for the projection, we also took care of the architectural lighting design and music composition for the show. A team of designers and engineers spent about 3 months on site to ensure that the implementation was done according to the original concept.
