to transfer the complex superstructure of the topic democracy into a visually understandable design language
for the 175th anniversary of the Paulskirche, we collaborated with Atelier Markgraph, the artist duo Katharina Zorn and Jasna Fritzi Bauer from HEUTESCHREIBEICH e.V. (HSI), the musician Chima and TCF for the light, water and audio installation “Ode an die Demokratie“ on the Main River in Frankfurt.
our task was the visual design of the content components of Markgraph. we created a video animation in close cooperation with HSI, as well as the lighting design and its programming. the key focus in the animation was to depict the lyrical and thematic elements in a way that wouldn’t distract but rather strengthen the overall concept. it was essential to consider that on the water screen, 2D line graphics would be split and eventually appear in 3D, which creates a sense of depth and enhancing of the visual images.
